Digital Twin Concept Is Increasingly Becoming Important To the World of Commercial Real Estate and Various Other Industries

Digital Twin

A Digital Twin is a virtual representation of a physical entity that serves as its real-time digital counterpart. While the concept of the digital twin dates back to 2010, NASA was the first to define it. In 2010, NASA released a document defining the concept. The benefits of a Digital Twin are plentiful. The ability to model physical objects with unprecedented accuracy can lead to a vast number of improvements in processes, services, and innovation. This process begins with experts in applied mathematics and data science who study physics and operational data of physical objects. They then create mathematical models that model the original. Once a model is developed, it can be used to simulate the original for much longer periods of time. As a result, the Digital Twin is now a staple of modern engineering.

The process of building a Digital Twin requires advanced computing and communication technologies. A system with at least 20,000 GPUs is required to support the Destination Earth digital twin project. The insights gained from simulations will help scientists develop future scenarios that can inform policy decisions and planning. They will also be used to assess drought risk, track changing Polar Regions, and plan renewable energy. By 2027, the main digital modeling platform is expected to be fully operational, and Destination Earth will be live.

To use the Digital Twin, users need to collect data on the object and its processes. The data can represent the behaviors and states of the real-world object. These data can relate to the product's entire life cycle. Users can include engineering and manufacturing information such as design specifications, materials, methods, and quality control. Other useful information may include real-time feedback, historical analysis, and maintenance records.
