The term "personal cloud" has several different meanings depending on how it is implemented. It can refer to a networked storage appliance, a private cloud, or any other cloud computing service aimed at home consumers. Despite its widespread usage, personal cloud is still a marketing buzzword and has yet to be fully defined technically. 

One of the perks of personal cloud services is that they allow to store and access content on multiple devices at the same time. Personal clouds are useful for businesses as well as individuals who don't need to store large amounts of data at one location. Users don't have to worry about security breaches or losing their data as the personal cloud service steward does not collect information about them. Furthermore, a personal cloud does not have the same security concerns as large data centers do.

Many people use multiple devices and computers, and are unable to access data stored on their computers at one time. Despite this, most people still use portable or flash drives to store data on other devices. Thankfully, modern technology has made it possible to store personal data in the cloud instead of using physical drives. Users can access this data through their smartphone, tablet, or computer and access their information no matter where they are. Whether the user is working or relaxing, a Personal Cloud is an easy way to backup and access data from any place.

Personal cloud storage services do not charge monthly subscriptions and are also generally cheaper than their public counterparts. Some even offer free storage at the lowest tier. Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive each come with 15GB of space, which is sufficient for light files. However, if users need more storage, they have to pay for a subscription, which start at $1.99 per month for 100GB. In contrast, personal cloud storage services charge a one-time fee.
