Sports Nutrition Has Become an Important Part of Successful and Health Training As It Provides Proper Growth, Basing Nutrition and Energy
Sports nutrition is a critical part of healthy, successful training. Along with providing energy and proper growth, basic nutrition also plays a major role in maintaining good health and scholastic achievement. Specifically designed for athletes, sports nutrition promotes better athletic performance, decreases fatigue, and helps athletes recover faster from exertion. By balancing energy intake with energy expenditure, athletes can optimize training and maximize their performance.
The key to Sports
Nutrition is
balance: an athlete must consume the proper amount of protein, carbohydrates,
and fat to fuel their body during exercise. An athlete must avoid high-fat
meals, which delay gastric emptying and can reduce their performance. A liquid
meal, however, can be useful for early morning events, as a carbohydrate-rich
breakfast will provide the body with the energy it needs to perform at its
highest level.
Besides the above, athletes must
also hydrate properly, both before and after their activity. The goal of proper
hydration is to replenish electrolyte and fluid deficits. Rehydration should
occur within two hours of intense activity. Athletes should also include
foods high in antioxidants and protein. Along with fluids, athletes should
drink electrolytes and carbohydrates. Fluid intake after an activity depends on
the activity. Typically, athletes consume a liquid volume of 400 to 600 mL of
cold water prior to an event. After an hour or so of activity, athletes should
consume 150 to 300 mL of fluid. Athletes should also drink fluid every 15 to
20 minutes to avoid dehydration.
In young athletes, proper
nutrition is critical for optimal growth and development. Young athletes should
learn which foods provide them with energy and which are more nourishing. It is
also important to make sure that athletes consume plenty of fluids and sports
drinks before and after activities. A balanced diet contains all essential
macronutrients, as well as adequate amounts of vitamins, minerals, and other
important nutrients. Fluids are essential for hydration and help the body
recover quickly. Recently in May 2022, Meiji, a Japanese firm announced the
launch of SAVAS, its sports nutrition brand into Taiwan, to target its
increasing community of sports persons.
